I had recently learnt from my friend Preetam that China had never recognized Sikkim as part of India. It treated it as an independent country. He also explained how pragmatic chinese government is when it comes to acquiring back their so called lost terretories. They played smart with HK. They let Britain rule and develop it and finally chucked them out when it seemed most profitable. It puts me to great relief that sikkim is no more a disputed territory. It’s one of the most exciting place in India. I hope to get there soon to explore more of it. Truly India’s pride.

dear jain
pl remember that the great leader and lady indira gandhi added sikkim to india.the way she broke up pakistan in 14 days was amazing.compare it with the flop show of vajpayee in kargil.india first allowed terrorists to occupy at the height of 17000 feet.our primeminister and defence minister were sleeping then.and then it took 42 days to beat only terrorists.instead of owning up kargil fiasco rss celebrates victory!and won election.

China recognized Sikkim as a separate country. They have never claimed it like they claim Arunachal Pradesh.
Unfortunately, the way India acquired Sikkim was not very “clean”. I feel something needs to be done to address this. The least the Indian government can do is apologize to the people.
I feel the rest of Indians need to be more aware of the North East. We need accept the region as mainstream part of India. How much new coverage the regions get? The students from the region get teased as “Chinese”.Meghalaya and Mizoram have a very high literacy rate - how may call centers or software development do you see there?
